This is a BBC TV series which in the edition shown tonight saw the presenters use a device to cycle along the disused Mullingar to Athlone Line.
I assume that I can walk the line to take photos, if you can allow the BBC to cycle along it?

Just as Limerick Junction was once infamous for requiring all trains using it to reverse to gain access to the platforms, Merrion Gates are infamous for the number of gate strikes by road users trying to beat the gate closing sequence. Today marks a new low for road users in Ireland.
Some cretin in a truck with an elevated jib ploughed across the line, taking the overhead catenary with him. I earnestly hope that a jail term ensues.

Well done lads. No matter how much the taxpayer “invests” in your network, you still manage to screw up. Less “investment” in capital and more in maintenance please.
I assume for those people trapped on the train, the Gardai will be facilitating charges of false imprisonment against IR, now that Dermot Ahern has said that no agency is above the law.
What happens when we buy rolling stock that is not reconised by our 30 year old semi computerised signalling system? We get rid of track circuits and use axle counters instead.
I am aware that 20 years ago, you could buy tapes of train sounds - which have probably migrated to CDs and MP3s since.
I’m not sure what to make of this.
Vote for the Lisbon Treaty and we will ensure that you have less rights than your EU counterparts. The Department of Thicks (DoT) have opted out of EU regulations that would have forced Irish Rail to compensate passengers for a wide range of failures on the part of IR.
Should have voted No.
