No private hire for railtours but OK for weddings?

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

The Irish Examiner has reported a story about a couple chartering a train to take their wedding guests from Banteer to Killarney. So, you can charter a train for weddings, but not for railtours?

Ballymurray Level Crossing

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

The Irish Examiner has reported on a wonderful incident which took place at Ballymurray LC in Co. Roscommon on the line to Westport. The crossing gates had been deactivated due to work taking place in the area - an act that allowed a road user to drive their car across the line only seconds before a train passed through.

Scumbaggery taken to a new low

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

The Irish Examiner has reported on a successful case taken by a wheelchair user against IR for harassment which culminated in the wheelchair user having an egg thrown at them by a staff member of Network Catering.

Please email barry.kenny@irishrail.ie to register your disgust at such behaviour towards those who are not responsible for their condition.

Can I have a PTSC please?

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

It always amazes me how IR can actively ban someone like me from taking photographs on their network, when scumbags can get away with this.
If you give me a PTSC, I promise to behave and not graffiti anything - like the countryside code, I will take nothing but photographs and leave nothing but footprints.

Iron Road Iran

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

We know about CIE Consult - but it looks like they missed a gig in Iran.

According to the Irish Independent, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s election campaign posters include a photograph of an Irish Rail 181 Class locomotive with the tag line “the country is advancing as rapidly as a train”. Obviously that would not be a train on the Nenagh branch or the South Wexford.

I hope someone doesn’t tell him that they serve alcohol on Irish trains. I also doubt that the stations face towards Mecca.
