Another waste of taxpayers money, but then, like the Catholic Church, what the GAA wants, the GAA gets.

New station for Croke Park?
Tuesday, January 20th, 2009NIR releases Bridge database under FOI
Monday, January 19th, 2009Congratulations to NIR for doing this and congratulations to Gavin Bamford for :
1. Lodging the FOI request and
2. Making the spreadsheet received available to a wider audience.
Now, if NIR are subject to FOI, why not Irish Rail?
As a gesture, lads, can you make your bridge database that you allegedly created after the IRMS review available publicly?
NRA wants to control railways
Monday, January 19th, 2009According to a post on Irish Railway News, the No Railways Authority (sorry - the National Roads Authority) wants all transport under one State agency (i.e. them). Seen the writing on the environmental wall for roads, have we Mr. Malone?
Although, with zero tolerance in IR even where passengers are not provided with the means to buy a ticket and the NRA sending legal threats to car owners based on an unconstitutional trawl of the NVDF, I can see the synergies. IR will start sending penalty fares to citizens at random using the electoral register.
17th December 2009
Sunday, January 18th, 2009Surely some mistake - or maybe I’ve discovered time travel ;). Neither. I am taking this opportunity to flag up a date for Irish Rail. 17th December 2009 is the 175th anniversary of the opening of the Dublin & Kingstown Railway between Westland Row (Pearse Station) and Dunleary - now part of the DART line. Contrary to the generically held view, the railway did not extend to Kingstown (Dun Laoghaire) upon opening but to a temporary terminus north of the town at Dunleary. This is roughly adjacent to the West Pier of Dun Laoghaire Harbour.
I am calling on IR to acknowledge the date and on 17th December 2009, to erect a plaque commemorating the event, not at Dun Laoghaire, but at Dunleary. The pier of the footbridge erected in lieu of the level crossing at this point would be the ideal location for such a commemoration.
Irish Rail employee transferred for misuse of resources
Sunday, January 11th, 2009The Sunday Independent has reported that:
contractors hired to work for Irish Rail had also carried out work for an employee, allegedly at the expense of the company.
Any chance you could tell us who?
9th January 2009
Friday, January 9th, 2009The 1739 ex Pearse to Maynooth delayed for 10 minutes at Tara Street due to door problems. In addition, the in carriage display was not working.
07th January 2009 pm
Wednesday, January 7th, 2009What a wonderful in carriage information system you have. On board the 1739 ex Pearse today, approaching Connolly the automatic annoucement statet that the next station was Pearse.
Leaving Connolly, the internal carriage display stated that Tara Street was the next station
Leaving Drumcondra, the internal carriage display stated that Tara Street was the next station
Leaving Broomebridge, the internal carriage display stated that Tara Street was the next station
Leaving Ashtown, the internal carriage display stated that Tara Street was the next station
Leaving Phoenix Park, the internal carriage display stated that Tara Street was the next station
Leaving Castleknock, the internal carriage display stated that Tara Street was the next station
Leaving Coolmine, the internal carriage display stated that Tara Street was the next station
Leaving Clonsilla, the internal carriage display stated that Tara Street was the next station
Leaving Leixlip Confey, the internal carriage display stated that Tara Street was the next station
Leaving Leixlip Louisa Bridge, the internal carriage display stated that Tara Street was the next station
There was also a signal delay at Croke Park.
07th January 2009 am
Wednesday, January 7th, 2009The 0730 ex Maynooth to Pearse was late departing from Maynooth, not doing so until 0735. As if this wasn’t bad enough, it was a short train due to a “technical fault”. This resulted in severe overcrowding on the train. There was also a delay for 5 minutes at North Strand Junction awaiting signal clearance.
06th January 2009 - pm
Tuesday, January 6th, 2009On board the 1739 ex Pearse to Maynooth, there was an automatic annoucement that the next station was Coolmine when approaching Castleknock.
6th January 2009
Tuesday, January 6th, 2009There was a signal delay between Clonsilla and Porterstown. It was announced at 0809 that there was a “slight” delay due to an electrical fault on track. Was the problem that the crossing at Porterstown failed to close - perhaps due to the failure of the ARROW to register its presence on the track?
There was a further delay before Ashtown - probably due to failure to close the LC gates.
Arrival in Connolly was not until 0843 and all passengers required to transfer to platform 5 to board a southbound ARROW. There was a further delay at Pearse Station due to an insufficient number of exit validators in use. All in, I was 15 minutes late to work.
