Pearse Station - how not to do it

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Upon arrival at the barrier on the northbound platform at Pearse Station this evening, the ticket checker was in “discussion” with a foreign national about ticket validity and therefore not attending to the operation of gates for annual pass holders unable to use automatic gates due to the gross incompetence of IR in issuing travel passes that do not work in their own ticket validators. As this was at 1859 with the 1900 ex Pearse to Maynooth on the platform, this could have given rise to a missed train on my part.

Control your staff.

Heuston Station 30th October 2008

I observed a passenger smoking at the door of the 1805 Heuston to Portlaoise under the enclosed roof of the station at 1804.

0630 ex Portlaoise to Heuston Station

My My, what a sense of humour the boys and girls in IR have. Upon approaching the new Fonthill Station, the automatic announcement on board the train states “We are now approaching …” followed by pig noises. I think IR should offer a job to Russell Brand, now that he is unemployed.

Belmayne station hits the buffers.

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Now there’s a surprise. The developers of the residential development at Belmayne, which was to include a new DART station between Howth Junction and Malahide, have now welched on the social aspects of the development, including the DART station. I am going to call a spade a spade here and blame Irish Rail.

When planning permission for this development was granted by Fingal County Council, they included the requirement for a DART station. Irish Rail objected, thereby holding up the commencement of the development. If they had not interjected in this ego protection manner, it is likely that the development would have commenced earlier than was the case and the station would have been built.

The move of the Foynes Line images to www.ironroadaaron.com is now complete. I have also taken the opportunity to add photos to the site that were not online previously as well as provide links to the new photo gallery setup.

The updated web address for this is: http://www.ironroadaaron.com/foynes/index.htm

Pearse Station jobsworth

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Whilst in Pearse Station this evening waiting for the train back to Maynooth, there was an IR jobsworth walking up and down the northbound platform blowing a whistle everytime someone stepped over the yellow line. Sad and pathetic. Of course, they will say, it is health and safety. Yes. Which is why there is only one narrow exit from platforms 6 and 7 in Connolly Station, even when there is an additional exit closed off and out of use. Then of course, there is the ARROW safety problem.

But the piece de resistance occurred at 1730 whilst jobsworth was patrolling the northbound platform. On the southbound platform, under the overall roof, there was a passenger smoking. No action was taken by jobsworth or anyone else representing IR. Enough said.

There is life outside being a collector of tickets

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

That most useless of former Taoisigh, Garret the ticket collection Fitzgerald has another job these days - outside of writing for the Fourth Reich paper, the Irish Times. He is, according to the Irish Independent, apparently a director of a couple of hedge funds. Would you trust a man who screwed up the economy with your money?

Domain Renewal Group

After the 800 euro directory entries, these scammers must rank next as the scummiest bottom feeders around. I already have a domain registrant and am perfectly happy with them. Go to hell.

CIE Chairman to take pay cut

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

A magnaminous gesture on the part of John Lynch? As it is my personal opinion that the entire management of CIE and all of its subsidiaries should actually have to pay us for giving them work experience, 10% of a pay cut isn’t enough. Add an extra nought onto the end and it would be about right.
