A potential tragedy has been avoided on the Malahide Estuary by a quick thinking train driver. A 20 metre section of the main viaduct that transports rail traffic over the estuary has collapsed. It was spotted by an Irish Rail train driver travelling in the opposite direction, who raised the alarm moments before a train was due to hit the affected track with hundreds of commuters on board. There's major disruption to the northern commuter route as a result and Irish Rail says this will continue for several weeks - at least.
